Endeavour: Sway

“How many years will give value to a book?”

I have noticed something.

It is always foggy in Endeavour-land.

This is clearly a cunning ruse to disguise the fact that what is being filmed is not in fact 50s Oxford but 2013 Oxford, with all the rubbish bins and double yellow lines and rising bollards that entails. The fact that it adds to the spooky atmosphere is just an added bonus.

Anyway. In Sway, a serial killer is out murdering married women. Endeavour and the gang try to find out who and why.

It’s pretty standard fare for Endeavour: the brilliant Endeavour Morse is picked on by his less intelligent superiors, who ignore his suggestions even when he’s right; suspicion bounces around the cast without ever falling on the right person until the very end; one of the police force meets an old flame. It’s still infinitely more interesting and intelligent than many other Murder Mysteries, though, and the lovely shots of historic Oxford don’t hurt.
