Bee Movie

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic.”

J.K. Rowling

Well, Christmas is, after all, the traditional time for catching up on cheesy animated films about animals.

Bee Movie is quite a good one, as animated films go, though. Unsurprisingly, it is about bees. Slightly more surprisingly, it is about bees who decide to sue the human race for stealing all their honey. This being Hollywood, they win.

But when bees stop needing to work hard for their honey, bad things happen. And there’s a nice little Moral of the Story in there about small jobs having a big impact. Because animated films about animals always need a Moral of the Story.

It’s a good story though, with some unashamedly schmaltzy moments, some interesting ideas about how pollination works (because nature doesn’t happen fast enough for Hollywood), and some pretty animation. I particularly liked the bee city-hive-thing.

On the whole, not too shabby for a New Year’s morning.
